12 LPA In-Hand Salary 2026: Monthly Take-Home, CTC Breakdown & Tax
A ₹12 LPA package means an annual Cost to Company of ₹12,00,000, or an average CTC of ₹1,00,000 per month. CTC is not the same as salary credited to your bank because employer PF, gratuity, insurance, variable pay and employee deductions can sit inside the package.
That is a useful broad range for many ₹12 LPA structures, not a guarantee. A company with high employer benefits or large variable pay can produce a lower fixed monthly take-home; a cash-heavy package can be higher.
12 LPA Means How Much Per Month?
₹12,00,000 divided by 12 is exactly ₹1,00,000. But this is the monthly CTC equivalent. Your offer letter can include items that are paid by the employer on your behalf or paid only annually.
| Term | Approximate Value |
|---|---|
| Annual CTC | ₹12,00,000 |
| Monthly CTC equivalent | ₹1,00,000 |
| Monthly gross | Depends on salary structure |
| Monthly in-hand | Often around ₹84,000–₹94,000 |
Why 12 LPA Is Not ₹1 Lakh In Hand
Employer PF can be counted in CTC even though it is deposited into your retirement account. Gratuity provision can also sit inside CTC. Some companies include medical insurance premiums, annual bonus or performance-linked variable pay. These items reduce the monthly cash component without reducing the stated package.
A Realistic CTC Example
Assume the company structures the ₹12 lakh package with ₹6 lakh annual basic pay, employer PF of ₹72,000, gratuity provision of roughly ₹28,900 and around ₹12,000 of insurance/other employer benefits. The remaining cash gross would be about ₹10.87 lakh a year, or around ₹90,600 a month.
| Illustrative CTC item | Annual |
|---|---|
| Cash gross salary | ≈ ₹10,87,100 |
| Employer PF | ₹72,000 |
| Gratuity provision | ≈ ₹28,900 |
| Insurance / employer benefits | ≈ ₹12,000 |
| Total CTC | ≈ ₹12,00,000 |
If employee PF is ₹6,000 per month in this example, monthly take-home before professional tax or other small deductions would be around ₹84,600. Another employer that caps PF or keeps fewer employer-side items inside CTC can produce a much higher bank credit from the same ₹12 LPA headline package.
Income Tax on 12 LPA in 2026
The current new-regime framework provides a ₹75,000 standard deduction for salary income, and the rebate structure can result in no normal income tax on salary up to ₹12.75 lakh, subject to the applicable conditions. Special-rate income such as certain capital gains is a separate issue and can change the calculation.
Key point: at ₹12 LPA, income tax is often not the main reason the in-hand figure is below ₹1 lakh. The larger difference usually comes from the gap between CTC and cash gross, plus PF and other payroll deductions.
12 LPA With Variable Pay
Suppose ₹1.2 lakh of the package is annual performance pay. Fixed CTC is then only ₹10.8 lakh. Your regular monthly salary may be based on that smaller fixed amount, while the variable component arrives quarterly or annually and may depend on performance.
How to Read Your Offer Letter
Look separately for basic salary, HRA, special allowance, employer PF, employee PF, gratuity, bonus, insurance and any joining or retention benefits. Do not compare two job offers only by the top-line CTC.

12 LPA vs Monthly In-Hand
A cash-heavy package may approach the low or mid ₹90,000s per month, while a benefits-heavy package may sit in the mid ₹80,000s. A very large variable-pay component can push the regular monthly credit lower still. The correct answer therefore comes from the salary structure, not from dividing CTC by 12.
How much is 12 LPA per month?
₹12 lakh divided by 12 is ₹1 lakh per month as CTC. Monthly gross and in-hand salary are usually lower.
What is 12 LPA in-hand salary?
A broad practical range is around ₹84,000 to ₹94,000 per month, but the exact figure depends on employer PF, gratuity, variable pay, insurance, professional tax and salary structure.
Is income tax deducted on a 12 LPA salary?
Under the current new-regime framework, salaried taxpayers can have no normal tax payable up to ₹12.75 lakh salary because of the ₹75,000 standard deduction and rebate conditions, assuming there is no special-rate income that changes the result.
Why is my 12 LPA take-home only around ₹85,000?
Because CTC may include employer PF, gratuity, insurance and variable components that are not part of monthly cash salary, while employee PF and other deductions reduce take-home.
