Para Commando Salary 2026: Basic Pay, Special Forces Allowance, MSP & Per Month Pay
A Para Commando does not have one separate basic salary scale. Personnel draw the basic pay of their Army rank and can receive defence-specific components such as Military Service Pay and Special Forces Allowance when eligible. Operational location can add further field, hardship or high-altitude benefits.
At Level 3, ₹21,700 basic plus 60% DA equals ₹34,720. Military Service Pay for JCOs/ORs is ₹5,200 under the 7th CPC structure. Special Forces Allowance is a separate eligible allowance.
How Para Commando Salary Is Built
The pay of Special Forces personnel is easiest to understand in layers. The first layer is rank-based basic pay. The next is Dearness Allowance. Military Service Pay is added for eligible defence ranks. Special Forces Allowance and operational-area allowances apply only when the relevant conditions are met.

A Sepoy-level Level 3 basic pay starts at ₹21,700 under the Defence Pay Matrix. At 60% DA, the DA component is ₹13,020. Adding ₹5,200 MSP gives ₹39,920 before Special Forces and posting-specific allowances.

Rank-Wise Basic Pay Matters
A Havildar, JCO or commissioned officer does not use the Sepoy starting basic. Higher Army ranks sit in higher Defence Pay Matrix levels, so DA and several percentage-linked benefits also rise with basic pay. That is why online claims of one fixed “Para Commando salary” can be misleading.
Special Forces Allowance
The official allowance review retained Special Forces Allowance and tied it to the Risk and Hardship Matrix. The 7th CPC base structure uses ₹17,300 per month up to Level 8 and ₹25,000 per month for Level 9 and above. Eligibility is connected to actual Special Forces service, not merely having undergone parachute training.
Important: Parachute pay and Special Forces Allowance are not interchangeable. Eligibility depends on the unit, role and applicable defence orders.
Other Allowances
Field Area Allowance, high-altitude benefits, Siachen-related benefits, transport, ration-related entitlements and other operational payments depend on the location and assignment. They should not be added to every salary calculation automatically.
In-Hand Salary
The take-home amount depends on rank, eligible allowances, pension contribution, insurance and other authorised deductions. For this reason, a current unit payslip is more reliable than a generic number copied from another rank or posting.
